Sustainability

We strive for implementing sustainability attributes in all stages of the life cycle of construction projects, seeking people’s comfort, better construction practices and less maintenance.

How we do it

Company sustainability

We define metrics and set up strategies to comply with the company’s internal requirements and abide by government regulations, such as sustainable mobility plans, sustainability indicators and an annual sustainability report.

Project sustainability

We seek to ensure sustainability in every phase of a project—i.e. design, construction, and operation—through a range of specialized services.

Bioclimatic design analysis and consultancy

Bioclimatic design involves evaluating the climate on site and implementing a project based on a range of factors. These factors allow the project design to effectively improve thermal comfort, or optimize energy use and indoor environmental quality, which ultimately results in an easier path towards a sustainable construction certification.

Aspects for analysis and evaluation

  • Sunlight incidence and radiation
  • Volumetrics
  • Compactness
  • Building orientation
  • Measurement of climate-appropriate window-to-wall ratio
  • Study of façade shading scenarios
  • Assessment of thermodynamic properties of building materials
  • Identification of natural ventilation areas

Analysis of sustainability attributes

Together with our sustainability and network professionals, we outline a set of criteria and parameters aiming at a more efficient use of water and energy resources. Our recommendations are applicable to the development of electrical and hydraulic systems and result in added savings for the project.

Aspects for analysis and evaluation

  • Use of rainwater for toilet flushing and irrigation of green areas.
  • Reuse of greywater.
  • Use of energy-saving toilets and faucets.
  • Control systems for lighting and lighting type.
  • Possible use of photovoltaic systems.

Sustainability service

Passive energy rehabilitation

We perform a diagnosis to project and evaluate a variety of solutions which generate better conditions of habitability and comfort for users. Depending on the climate, we aim to either reduce or harness available thermal resources from an on-site analysis of the constructive characteristics of existing buildings, developing a thermal/energy model in specialized software.

Aspects for analysis and evaluation

  • Characteristics of materials comprising façades, wall enclosures, openings and roofs (thermal transmittance, thermal resistance).

  • Orientation (determining which façades receive more solar radiation, depending on the climate, or which façades may be more suitable for natural ventilation and sunlight).

Management and support for Sustainable Construction Certification

Housing certification

Developed by the Colombian Sustainable Construction Council (CCCS), this is a housing certification system which focuses on the user. It recognizes sustainable, healthy building projects, and incorporates the concept of integral sustainability. Leading companies in urban planning and sustainable housing constitute the benchmark practices which ensure the technical and commercial viability of construction projects, whether they are social interest housing or profit-oriented developments.

Construction certification

Edge (Excellence in Design for Greater Efficiencies) is the green building certification system for emerging markets created by IFC, a member of the World Bank Group. This certification can be awarded to buildings that meet water, energy and embodied energy savings parameters.

Efficiency certification

LEED® (Leadership in Energy & Environmental Design) is the world’s most widely used certification system for the design, construction, maintenance and operation of sustainable buildings. By using less energy, LEED-certified spaces make savings for families and businesses, reduce carbon emissions, and contribute to healthy environments for residents, workers, and the community at large.
