  • The company will donate to create a research fund at the University of Miami School of Architecture.
  • Over three years, it will donate $150 for the development of these activities.
  • The fund will support research in topics such as digitalization of construction, robotics in construction, building information modeling (BIM), additive manufacturing (3D printing), and sustainability.

Colombia, May 2022. For several years now, the concept of smart cities has been debated. It is relevant to address major challenges facing metropolises in areas such as mobility, the environment, and security, among others. Some parts of the world have been pioneers in implementing strategies, but the truth is that much work remains to be done to ensure that cities qualify under this model.

Therefore, it is important for academia to continue making progress in research to implement actions that will result in the consolidation of Smart Cities, in addition to generating knowledge for future generations of architects and engineers who will be responsible for making them a reality.

Along these lines, Conconcreto LLC and the University of Miami reached an agreement to create a research fund for the University of Miami's School of Architecture. This fund was established through the signing of a partnership and a donation from Conconcreto LLC of $150 for the next three years.

The donation will be made in three installments of $50 each, from 2022 to 2024, with the goal of supporting research in construction digitalization, construction robotics, building information modeling (BIM), additive manufacturing (3D printing), and sustainability.

"We are motivated to apply innovative technologies to everyday life, and we also want the University of Miami School of Architecture to use its innovative knowledge and creative thinking to apply these technologies," explained Conconcreto President Juan Luis Aristizábal.

In recognition of the donation, room 140, located in the Casa La Gorce manufacturing facility at the University of California's School of Architecture, will be named the Conconcreto Research Unit in honor of the donor.

The partnership will also allow the two organizations to share knowledge and offer students from the School of Architecture the opportunity to intern at the company. The partnership will also allow them to jointly host a Smart Cities event in Miami on May 19 and 20.

The Annual Smart Cities Conference is an initiative to promote new technologies in the architectural ecosystem, contributing to the design and development of more sustainable, livable, and resilient cities.

One of the most striking highlights of this event will be the participation of iNNpulsa Colombia, an organization promoting innovation and entrepreneurship. It has participated in various national and international forums, bringing its extensive experience to contribute to the debate on smart cities and seeking opportunities to import and export knowledge to and from Colombia. Likewise, Autodesk, a leading software company in 3D design using BIM technology, is a key player in the development of this topic.

In Smart Cities, these organizations join forces and expertise to foster the conversation about smart cities with a focus on new technologies, construction, and sustainability.
